Raising Awareness Using a Strong Communications Strategy

With all the growth and new development our region is experiencing, safety is a priority for everyone. And having a well-equipped police station is vital in every growing community.

Gard recently worked with our friends and clients at the Oregon City Police Department to raise awareness about the City’s urgent need for a new public safety facility. We worked directly with Chief Jim Band to develop a public relations communications strategy that helped garner community support for a new building plan. This included educating the public and gathering support for a new safety advancement fund to help pay for the project.

The City performed thorough research to learn how other cities had funded similar projects and wanted to make sure the community was on board with the plan. The Gard public relations team worked side-by-side with the police department to develop a messaging platform that helped raise awareness and answer frequently asked questions. We also collaborated with Storymind Productions to develop the informational video below detailing the need and process for funding a new public safety facility.

The video has been warmly received on Facebook and YouTube, and was a hit at a recent Oregon City Council meeting. Results of the Community Safety Advancement Fund will be revealed after the November election.
